Book Review - The Complete Jewish Study Bible
Hey there friends. Okay, so the title may not grab you. You may be thinking, "Well that doesn't sound very exciting." Oh, but it is!
Several weeks ago, I had the awesome privilege to receive a copy of The Complete Jewish Study Bible in the mail to look over and review.
A Jewish Bible has been on my radar for a long while, so when I received it, I was a little over the moon.
Why the big deal over another Bible, and why would I be interested in a Jewish one at that? Let me tell you why....
This book is so rich in content. I guess describing a Bible as "rich in content" is kind of unnecessary, however, this study Bible offers so much to aid in your understanding of the original meanings.
Often what happens in translations is the original text is changed a bit to fit into modern day language. But with this Bible, it gives the reader what is described as, "information from Jewish sources to explain a thoroughly Jewish book - the Bible- written by Jews, about Jews, initially for Jews in the Jewish Land of Israel."
For me, this is incredibly helpful and insightful, especially when I am studying for a lesson I'll be teaching or a new project I'm writing on.
I also love the fact that it uses the proper and original Hebrew names like "Yeshua" for Jesus, "Moshe" for Moses, "Adonai" for Lord, and so forth.
In the back of the book, the reader will find a Glossary of Hebrew words with the very helpful pronunciations in English.
Also in the back, are scripture readings for Shabbat (Sabbath) and the various festivals, feasts and fasts.
I highly recommend this Bible to enhance your study experience. For those of us non-Jewish Christians, this book gives us a feel for the true and original richness of God's Word to man.
Hope this has been helpful. You'll just have to check it out for yourself! Here's a link for purchase: http://www.christianbook.com/the-complete-jewish-study-bible/9781619708679/pd/708679
