Behind the Scenes

This past weekend our town hosted our annual July Youth Fair.  It's always a big deal to the community, but never much desired by the police.  The weather is almost always hot, the crowds often get rowdy, and it leaves little rest for those weary officers who have to work it.

This morning as I drove towards town, it dawned on me how much we average-Joe citizens take for granted.  Whether we go to a fair, an amusement park, a city firework display, or some other type of community event, all we see is the outside workings.

Often we fail to stop and consider the men and women behind the scenes keeping things safe for us to enjoy, including the endless hours of foot patrol in the heat, time away from their families, lack of sleep, and all the unruly folks they have to corral.

God reminds us through the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:12, that this world is a bit like those events.  Each day we live on this planet, all we see is a poor reflection of what is to come.

"Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."

For those of us who are Christ followers, we pray and even witness God at work in our lives and in the lives of others, but that work is only a fraction of His total goodness and limitless power.  Paul likens it with looking into a mirror that is either dimly lit or clouded by something. What we see is not the total picture.

However, someday when we find ourselves in the presence of Christ, watch out!  He's going to blow our minds with all of His glory!  At that moment, all the behind the scenes things will become clear.  It is then, that we will understand what He's been doing all along.

Have a great week and say a prayer for those behind the scenes!
Kristi
